Thanks for posting this, Duncan. The book looks like a great read.

Now, if we could just figure out how to make this book required reading for elected politicians and their policy peons who have been infected by the Austerity bug, we might have a chance at stopping the economic madness that is unfolding around the globe.

Very happy to read this critique of TINA voodoo economics. I wonder if the Eurocrisis will augur in a period when we in richer countries start looking for solutions in the 'developing world', and ordinary people realise that the prescription they're being sold is only going to worsen the syndrome from which they suffer?

Very interesting stuff. I often think that the TINA advocates are just lazy and uncreative. We posted just this morning about some creative ways of going about budget cuts and limits. Have a look here: http://openbudgetsblog.org/2012/05/25/rigid-caps-government-budgets-dont-work/

Thanks for a great blog

I liked this graph - and noticing that major recessions occurred in the twentieth century except when the financial system (imperfectly) was effectively controlled (post WWII and up until the US effective default in 1971)...but the lessons of history are overwhelmed by the greed of the few accompanied by their fellow travelers and useful idiots, sadly.
