Lightened my Monday morning. I could spend hours looking at that map. In fact, I am. How descriptive, evocative, tantalising…..how wonderful for there to be a city “Where People Get Honour And Respect”.
Ha! Love that Luanda is ‘Sandbank with Value’ – given the oil and prices there that seems quite prescient…
Reminds me of a place marked on a map of Lakes in South Sudan close to where I was working in the early 80s. The 1:250,000 series was heavily based on surveying by Condominium officials in the 1930s. Out there in floodplains was Panerda. Which translates as “My maternal uncle’s place”. One can clearly reconstruct the conversation through an interpreter…
