Festival Manager Applications Open! Top 6 reasons to get involved

It may only be January, but Oxjam18 starts now. That’s because this week we opened applications for Festival Managers, starting our search for this year’s crop of inspiring volunteers who will pull the strings and organise massive multi-venue music festivals all across the UK in October. We are beyond excited to get started, and are looking forward to hearing from you! Here are our top 6 reasons to register your interest and start your application today.

1. Help beat poverty
We’ll start with the big one, the whole reason that Oxjam exists in the first place. All money raised by our Festival Managers goes to Oxfam, supporting lifesaving work around the world and helping to beat poverty for good. Oxfam is a global movement of millions who share the belief that, in a world rich in resources, poverty isn’t inevitable. In just 15 years, extreme poverty has been halved. 15 more years and we can end it for good. And what better way to help than through music? Music is a universal language and unifying force, and by being a part of Oxjam18 you are using that force to drive change. Local music. Global impact.

2. Provide a platform for local artists
Oxjam is all about local music, meaning that our festivals are made up of the best up and coming and unsigned talent. Irrespective of genre, local artists need to be nurtured and provided with the opportunity to perform, practise and hone their craft. As a nationwide music festival too, Oxjam puts local music under the spotlight, helping bands reach a wider audience. Past performers at our festivals have included Foals, Everything Everything, Young Fathers and Declan Mckenna, so by organising a festival in your town, you may be responsible for finding the next big thing.

3. Give back to the community
Oxjam is at heart a community festival, run by you, for you. It is a great way to bring local music fans together and to celebrate everything you love about your hometown – the people, the places, the art and the culture. By being a Festival Manager you will be the one responsible for uniting your community and creating an event that people will be talking about for years.

4. Support independent music venues
Oxjam is a grassroots festival, and so we’re all about supporting independent businesses and music venues. Independent venues are vital for grassroots music as they offer upcoming artists the space to perform, and many music fans their first taste of live music. They also make a huge contribution both culturally and economically to the UK, and your Oxjam festival will help keep them going.

5. Gain experience
If you’re wanting to rejuvenate your CV then look no further. Our Festival Managers gain valuable experience in music and events management, marketing, fundraising, production, project management and just about every other skill that employers look for in candidates! We’re here too to give you all the training and advice you need to ensure you pull off your own massive music festival and write your name into Oxfam’s rich musical history. Not bad, eh?

6. Be inspiring in 2018
It’s a new year, right? And so you’re probably keen to make some resolutions and do something both challenging and rewarding in 2018. Being a Festival Manager with Oxjam is certainly that, not to mention a whole lot of fun too. If you’ve ever wanted to host your own music festival but don’t know where to start, then this is for you. Start your application now.
